converting volume to weight
I've been having some trouble with bread lately, and finally decided that I needed quit to wishy-washying and just convert from volume to weight measurements already. The problem I'm having now is finding enough sources that agree with each other so that I know what I'm doing. One says a cup of flour is 4.4 oz, another says it's only 4, another says no, it's 5 oz. And yet another source says it depends completely on what kind of flour you're weighing, which makes sense to me, but they didn't include *what* the different flours should weigh. So my question is, what should a cup of plain white AP flour weigh? Is there a difference in the weights of different types of flour, enough to make a difference when I'm converting recipes? Is there a 'definitive' guide to converting volume to weight out there somewhere? (I've found several, but none agree with any of the others.) |

What I'm doing is still working. I'm on a much less tight rein than when I started, and yet, it is still working. My doctor just about gushed over how much better my test results are, and says I'm doing everything right. Still refilled my prescription for pravastatin. Even though I'd been without it for a couple of months and still had lower cholesterol, she credits the drug for the improvement, at least in part. My blood pressure has been optimal all my life, due to the Buddhalike serenity and good cheer for which I am so well known. This time around, it was 134/80, which the doc was a little concerned about, but not much, as it is offset by the cholesterol, the glucose, the triglycerides, etc. I can't even say this is one of the top ten stressful periods of my life right now; this is just ordinary-difficult, the kind of can't-have-everything-you-wantness that everyone goes through, most people more severely than I. And the rewards are worth the trouble. My garden is planted. The cherry trees i planted last year have little fruits on them already. Ensign Naismith has a tooth. Girl Genius has awesome friends who come to visit. Some of them will live in the little house soon. Life is good. Hope you are the same. |

All That Remains  I picked up Rutledge the Corgi's ashes from the vet's office today. They were all very sweet and kind. He was there regularly because the groomer works from their office. I thought it would make me really sad but there's something comforting about having what's left of him back at home. His ashes are in that cedar box on the top shelf. It's in the living room which is in the center of our house. Just as he was in the center of our hearts. Someday we might scatter his ashes in the yard but for now, I like having what remains right up there, reminding us of all the joy he brought into our lives. |
